Mata'utia confident in right edge's improvement

Press conference: Sione Mata'utia on Round 6

nib Newcastle Knights centre Sione Mata’utia believes his best games are yet to come in his preferred role as right centre, a position he has played in since junior footy days.

“I always felt comfortable in the centres, it’s where I grew up playing as a junior,” Mata’utia stated.

“It’s good to get a win against a quality side… the crowd was amazing and was definitely a factor in getting us home after two weeks with no wins.”

Thorough analysis and hard work on the right side during training last week helped the right edge put their best foot forward against Brisbane.

While the away team came ready to attack, Mata’utia and his teammates on the right were well prepared and he believes that the same detailed preparation will be the key to beating the Melbourne Storm on Friday.

“We spoke about it all week, especially on the right side with myself, Skids (Shaun Kenny-Dowall) and Lamby (Brock Lamb). We have been working hard and I think we definitely put our best foot forward against the Broncos.

“They threw a lot at us but there is still work to be done… I’m sure Melbourne are going to do the exact same thing and fire a few shots down the right side.

“Melbourne is the side that’s always doing the one per-centers for the whole 80 minutes and that’s what we have got to do. We need to perform for the whole 80 minutes and be ready to play.  With the side they have there is still so much potential.”
