Vale Gerry Edser

The Newcastle Knights would like to pass our sincere condolences to friends and family of club stalwart and Knights visionary Gerry Edser, who sadly passed away this week.

Gerry was an 18-year-old who played five eighth in the Newcastle team which won the State Cup in the sixties defeating North Sydney, South Sydney, the legendary St George and Parramatta in the final. Gerry then had 2 successful seasons at Parramatta before returning home to play with Central.

Gerry was a highly successful Real Estate agent who became an integral part of the group of three people who organised and pushed for Newcastle’s entry into the big time, which came to fruition with Newcastle Knights entry into the Winfield Cup in 1988.

nib Newcastle Knights will today wear black arms in the match against the Cronulla Sharks to show their respect and honour the significant contribution Gerry made to the Knights and the broader Newcastle community.

Gerry is survived by Gayleen and his three children.

Rest in Peace Gerry.
