Dureau reveals 2019 Jersey Flegg team

The nib Newcastle Knights have had a number of changes to their coaching staff over the off-season and a new head coach for the Jersey Flegg team is one of them.

Scott Dureau has taken the reigns as 20s coach and announced his squad for the 2019 season.

The Jersey Flegg side started training on Monday and Dureau likes what he's seen from his troops.

IF YOU DON'T REACH YOUR POTENTIAL, IT'S JUST A WASTE

"The first week has been really good," Dureau said.

"I've been impressed by some of the testing results, and the condition most of the players have come back in."

To start the 2019 season, four exceptional young players from the Jersey Flegg side have been asked to train with the full-time NRL squad during the pre-season.

Phoenix Crossland, Luke Huth, Matt Croker and Tex Hoy have been given the opportunity to train with the NRL squad and will return to Jersey Flegg training after the Christmas break.

LINO: 'WHAT BROUGHT ME TO THE KNIGHTS'

Dureau hopes training with experience players can help elevate their games.

"It'll be exciting and hopefully they'll have a good preseason and learn plenty with the NRL squad and bring what they've learnt back to the 20's," Dureau added.

Lino: What brought me to the Knights

"They're going to go to a new physical level, the extra training with NRL full day and an extra day a week training.

"Learning under some high quality players and experience players like Mitchell Pearce and Aidan Guerra, hopefully they can educate our players."

Last season the Jersey Flegg side finished minor premiers but were knocked out of the competition in the preliminary final against Penrith.

With high expectation on the team in 2019, Dureau revealed his focus is on developing players rather than results.

"We're not focusing on the result, we're focusing on developing and trying to develop," Dureau added.

"We've got quite a talented young group and we want to develop them into the ultimate goal of being an NRL player and play at the Knights.

"Hopefully we can have a successful year and our main goal and focus is developing the players and developing the group to be successful."
