The nib Newcastle Knights NRLW squad has received a major boost heading into the business end of the season, securing contract extensions for playmaker Georgia Roche and powerful centre Sidney Taylor.
English International and dual premiership winner Roche has re-signed until the end of 2030, extending her time at the club to eight seasons after joining the Knights from the Leeds Rhinos in 2023.
Taylor has agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension until the end of 2028, continuing her meteoric rise into the NRLW after joining the Knights this season following a decorated Australian Rugby Sevens career.
NRLW Head Coach Ben Jeffries said Roche is a key component of the club’s future.
“Georgia is a priority signing and important foundation for our club to build around,” Jeffries said.
“We firmly believe Georgia is coming into the prime of her career at 26 years of age.
“She has led the team in her transition to halfback, and we know she will only get better as the years unfold and her combination with Kirra continues to build.
“Georgia has a huge impact internally on our group. Her running game is essential to our attack, and her determination to be the best version of herself is very exciting.”
Jeffries also highlighted Taylor’s impressive debut season.
“Sidney’s transition from Rugby Sevens to the NRLW has been remarkable,” Jeffries said.
“She has inspired her teammates, and it was an easy decision to extend her contract until the end of 2028.
“We were always confident Sidney would transition well given her professionalism and athletic ability. She has stepped into the NRLW with a bang, and her impact has been immediate.
“Sidney has showcased her speed and power with consistent performances. She has representative aspirations, and we believe those opportunities will come soon.
“We are delighted Sidney has decided to remain a Knight and we look forward to her being a key member of our backline until at least 2028.”
