Diesel Hagan Earns NRL Promotion as Knights Pathways Continue to Deliver

The nib Newcastle Knights have rewarded emerging forward Diesel Hagan with an upgrade to the club's NRL Development list for the remainder of the 2026 and the 2027 season.

The 19-year-old has also secured his long-term future at the club, joining the Knights' Top 30 squad from the beginning of the 2028 season.

Hagan's elevation comes following another standout season through the Knights' pathways program, which recently saw him represent the NSW Under 19s alongside fellow Knights Toby Winter and Kingston Seve (Queensland) in the State of Origin clash.

The recognition extends beyond the men's program, with Lacey Cross, Emily McArthur and Stella Lewis also earning selection for the NSW Under 19 Women's State of Origin side, highlighting the strength of the club's development system across both programs.

Newcastle Knights Director of Football Chris James said Hagan's promotion was a well-deserved reward for his dedication and continued development.

"Diesel has worked incredibly hard to earn this opportunity," James said.

"He's developed every year he's been in our system and has consistently shown the attitude, professionalism and work ethic we value at the Knights.

"This upgrade is recognition of the progress he's made, but we also see plenty of growth ahead of him. We're excited to continue supporting his development over the coming years."

James said the recent State of Origin selections across both the men's and women's pathway programs demonstrated the club's ongoing investment in developing local talent.

"To have three players selected in both the men's and women's NSW Under 19 Origin teams is a fantastic reflection of the work being done throughout our program," he said.

"It's a credit to our players, coaches and staff who continue to create an environment where young athletes can develop and thrive."

The Newcastle Knights will have the strongest representation of any NRL club at the upcoming Australian Secondary Schools National Championships.

From Saturday July 4 to Saturday July 11, the club will have 24 contracted male and female players representing CHS,CCC and CIS, at the renowned Australian selection trials, to be held at Coffs International Stadium.
