Pathways Report: Tarsha Gale Cup side downed in Grand Final

In this week's pathways report, we take a look at the the nib Newcastle Knights squads in the NSW Cup, Jersey Flegg Cup and Tarsha Gale Cup competitions.

The Under 19's women's side travelled down to Sydney for the Tarsha Gale Cup Grand Final on Saturday against the Illawarra Steelers.

For the Senior Reps, the Knights hosted the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Sunday at the Newcastle Permanent Centre of Excellence.

NSW Cup | Knights 34-12 Rabbitohs

The Knights NSW Cup side have bounced back with a strong win over the Rabbitohs at the Newcastle Permanent Centre of Excellence on Sunday.

After the Bunnies led 12-6 at half-time with Will Pryce scoring the Knights first in the opening half, the red and blue clicked into gear in the second.

The side ran in five unanswered tries to come home with the victory.

NSW Cup: 2024 Round 8 Highlights

James Bradley and Laitia Moceidreke both scored in quick succession before Kyle McCarthy got on the end of a kick to post the Knights fourth.

Liam Sutton and Tom Jenkins rounded out the scoring to confirm the result for the Cup side.

The Cup side have moved up to seventh spot on the ladder following the win.

Jersey Flegg Cup | Knights 14-20 Rabbitohs

The Jersey Flegg Cup side have gone down to the Rabbitohs at the Newcastle Permanent Centre of Excellence on Sunday.

The two sides scored three tries each with the Rabbitohs conversions proving the difference.

After a tight encounter in the opening stages of the first half, the away side led 6-4 at the change of ends.

 

Tea-Rani Woodman Tuhoro scored a double for the Knights while Blake Woodford also got across the stripe late in the game.

The Jersey Flegg side remain in fifth spot on the Under 21's ladder with four wins and two defeats.

Tarsha Gale Cup | Knights 12-24 Steelers

In the women's Under 19's Grand Final, the Knights Tarsha Gale Cup side fought valiantly but were defeated by 12 points to Illawarra.

The Knights were off to a fast start scoring in the first minute through Lilly McNamara on the wing.

The Steelers hit back on the eighth minute mark before notching two quick-fire tries through Indie Bostock.

Tarsha Gale Cup: 2024 Grand Final Highlights

Aylah McCulloch got one try back for the Knights before half-time as Newcastle trailed 18-12 at the change of ends.

The Knights through plenty of attack at the Steelers attempting to get back into the contest however Illawarra would hold firm and claim another try in the final minutes to win the Grand Final.
