Pathways Report: Junior Rep sides one win away from Grand Final

In this week's pathways report, we take a look at the the nib Newcastle Knights squads in the NSW Cup, Jersey Flegg Cup, SG Ball Cup, Tarsha Gale Cup and Lisa Fiaola Cup competitions.

The men's Senior Reps sides were in action against the Sydney Roosters last week in Round 6.

Meanwhile, the Junior Reps sides kicked off their finals series' at Leichhardt Oval last Saturday.

NSW Cup | Knights 30-26 Roosters

The NSW Cup side staged a stunning comeback to defeat the Sydney Roosters on Thursday night at McDonald Jones Stadium.

After trailing 26-0 after 31 minutes, the squad produced a huge second half performance to turnaround the deficit and win the game.

Elijah Salesa-Leaumoana scored the Knights first crashing over just before half-time.

NSW Cup: 2024 Round 6 Highlights

David Armstrong had his first try of the game, busting through two Roosters defenders for the first points of the second half.

The Knights were within eight when Jed Cartwright crossed over after receiving an inside ball from Tyson Gamble before Zach Herring opened up the Roosters defence scoring untouched to reduce the margin to two.

With ten minutes to play, the Knights shifted the ball through multiple hands before it made its way to Brodie Jones, who showed his strength to burrow through the Roosters and score the winning try.

The result is a back-to-back wins for the Knights and their third victory of the season.

Jersey Flegg Cup | Knights 22-18 Roosters

The Jersey Flegg Cup side have returned to winning ways with a four-point win over the Sydney Roosters at the Newcastle Permanent Centre of Excellence on Sunday.

The Knights led by six at half-time through tries to Jerome Falemoe and Jacob Davis in the first half cancelling out the Roosters opening four-pointer.

Tea-Rani Woodman Tuhoro posted the Knights third try of the match to continue the red and blue's lead.

Jersey Flegg Cup: 2024 Round 6 Highlights

The away side reduced the margin to four when they scored their second of the game after 49 minutes before a Harley Walker line break for the Knights set up halfback Liam Sutton to score under the posts.

Newcastle would only concede another try, running out four-point winners in a tight encounter.

The Under 21's side currently sit in fifth spot with four wins from their opening six games.

SG Ball Cup | Knights 44-16 Steelers

The SG Ball Cup squad are one win away from a consecutive Grand Final berth after defeating the Illawarra Steelers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.

The side scored eight tries to the Steelers three to advance to the second week of the Junior Reps finals series.

Winger Sosaia Latu posted a hat-trick for the Knights including the first and last tries of the match.

SG Ball Cup: 2024 Semi-Final Highlights

Jack Hilliar scored a double as the Under 19's side produced 44 points with some enterprising play.

Jermaine McEwen, Brock Thomas and Malachi Smith also got their name on the scoresheet in the impressive Finals display.

The side march onto a Preliminary Final where they will take on the St George Dragons this Saturday for a spot in the Grand Final.

Tarsha Gale Cup | Knights 18-16 Sea Eagles

The Tarsha Gale Cup side have won a hard-fought Semi Final over the Manly Sea Eagles at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.

The two teams traded tries throughout the game with the Knights just getting over the line with four tries to three.

Makaah Darcy and Lilly McNamara scored in the first half for Newcastle as the side trailed by two at the change of ends.

Tarsha Gale Cup: 2024 Semi-Final Highlights

After Manly scored first in the second half, Knights forward Fane Finau crossed the stripe to put the Knights back to within two.

Forward Evah McEwen looked to have put the Knights ahead following a powerful  surge close to the line but couldn't plant the ball down. Shortly after, McEwen wouldn't be denied a second time proving too strong for the Sea Eagles defence.

The Knights would hold onto their two point advantage to advance to week two of the finals. 

Lisa Fiaola Cup | Knights 22-10 Eels

The Lisa Fiaola Cup side have continued their winning momentum into the Finals Series with a 12-point win over Parramatta on Saturday at Leichhardt Oval.

Newcastle scored four tries to the Eels two to move through to a Preliminary Final.

The Knights led 16-0 at half-time following tries to Macey Cox, Isla Hodgson and Taylah Jane Belcher in the opening half an hour.

Lisa Fiaola Cup: 2024 Semi-Final Highlights

Cox would post her second try of the game with a brilliant solo effort from inside the Knights own half to secure the result.

The win is the Under 17 side's sixth win in a row as the side now sits one game away from the Grand Final.

They will play the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs this Saturday for a spot in the final two.
