Pathways Report: Cup side earn last-ditch winner

In this week's pathways report, we take a look at the the nib Newcastle Knights squads in the NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg Cup competitions.

The two Senior Reps sides hosted the St George Illawarra Dragons over the weekend.

In the Junior Reps, the squads which qualified for the finals earned a week off ahead of the first week of the playoffs this weekend.

NSW Cup | Knights 30-24 Dragons

The NSW Cup side scored a six point win over the Dragons on Friday night at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The side jumped out to an early lead in tough conditions with tries to Kyle McCarthy, David Armstrong and Elijah Salesa-Leaumoana.

St George Illawarra hit back with two of their own before half-time as the Knights led 16-12 at the change of ends.

NSW Cup: 2024 Round 5 Highlights

The away side took the lead in the second half with two tries either side of a special Fletcher Sharpe four-pointer for the Knights.

Locked at 24-all following a Will Pryce penalty goal, a kick from Tyson Gamble fell into the in-goal and a flying David Armstrong won the race to the ball with a spectacular put-down for his second of the game.

The Knights would hold onto their six-point lead to take the two points and their second win of the season.

Jersey Flegg Cup | Knights 16-30 Dragons

The Jersey Flegg Cup side were defeated by the St George Illawarra Dragons on Saturday at the Newcastle Permanent Centre of Excellence.

The Dragons scored six tries to the Knights three to take the two points.

Corey Thomas, Harry Reid and Jayden Harris scored for Newcastle.

The Flegg side sit in fifth with three wins from five to start the Under 21's season.
