Pathways Report: Junior Reps qualify for finals

In this week's pathways report, we take a look at the the nib Newcastle Knights squads in the NSW Cup, Jersey Flegg Cup, SG Ball Cup, Tarsha Gale Cup, Harold Matthews Cup and Lisa Fiaola Cup competitions.

The Senior Reps sides travelled across the ditch to take on the Warriors in Auckland on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Junior Reps side played their final round of the regular season with a couple of finals spots on the line.

NSW Cup | Knights 12-26 Warriors

The NSW Cup side were defeated by the Warriors at Go Media Stadium on Sunday.

The Knights opened the scoring through Will Pryce in the first minute, after a line-break and kick from forward Elijah Salesa leaumoana.

The home side would post two tries before half-time to take a 10-6 lead into the break.

The Warriors would score another three tries in the second half to extend their lead.

James Bradley notched a late consolation try for the Knights, but it wasn't enough for the red and blue.

Following the opening four rounds, the Cup side sit in 12th spot on the ladder with one win and three defeats.

Jersey Flegg Cup | Knights 18-8 Warriors

The Jersey Flegg Cup side scored a 10-point win over the Warriors in Auckland on Sunday.

Jeremy Trappett opened the account for the Knights on the 8th minute mark to put Newcastle in front.

The Warriors would draw level on the 17th minute, as the sides went into the sheds locked at 4-4.

The Knights left-edge attack showed their class in the second half with Siaosi Kaliti bagging a double.

Centre Jarome Falemoe also crossed the stripe following a kick from Corey Thomas.

The red and blue would hold off the Warriors to finish ahead by 10 points and claim their third win in a row.

SG Ball Cup | Knights 50-10 Tigers

The Under 19's men's outfit have finished their regular season with a thumping 40-point win over the Tigers.

The team were rampant from start to finish running in nine tries to the Tigers two.

Malachi Smith got the ball rolling for the red and blue in the fourth minute burrowing over from dummy-half.

SG Ball Cup: 2024 Round 9 Highlights

Logan Aoake, Haami Loza, Cody Hopwood, Zeek Faulkner and Te Kaio Cranwell all got over the line as the side went into the sheds ahead 34-0.

Bailey Carmichael would post a double in the second half to continue the scoring for Newcastle while Harley Walker would cross over with 20 minutes to play.

The SG Ball Cup side march onto the first week of the Junior Reps finals series with a 7-2 record, finishing in third spot on the ladder.

Tarsha Gale Cup | Knights 20-6 Bears

The Tarsha Gale Cup team have qualified for the finals after a strong win over the Bears on Saturday at the NSWRL Centre of Excellence.

Centre Eve Keeling raced away to score the Knights opener in the first minute of the game

The Bears would respond with a try eight minutes later before Lilly McNamara posted her first try of the game on the wing to give the Knights the lead heading into the break.

Tarsha Gale Cup: 2024 Round 9 Highlights

The Knights would go on with the job in the second half to qualify for the playoffs.

McNamara would notch her second of the game before forward Evah McEwen scored another brilliant solo try, busting through the Bears defence to seal the win for the Knights.

The Under 19's side finished the regular season in fifth spot, with a 5-1-2 record, to move through to the first week of finals.

Harold Matthews Cup | Knights 34-6 Tigers

The Harold Matthews Cup side have finished their regular season on a high note with a convincing win over the Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.

Winger Fletcher Sommerville notched a first half hat-trick for the Knights to put the red and blue on their way.

Chip Valentish and Diesel Hagan added tries before the break to give the Knights a 24-0 lead at the change of ends.

Harold Matthews Cup: 2024 Round 9 Highlights

Sommerville would have his fourth try early in the second half to cap a memorable game for the young outside-back.

Matthew McEwen scored a late try for the Knights to see the side move into the 30's.

Unfortunately, for the Under 17's side, they have missed the finals narrowly by two points, but showed a lot of promising signs across their nine-game season.

Lisa Fiaola Cup | Knights 46-4 Bears

The Lisa Fiaola Cup squad have qualified for the finals with a comprehensive victory over the North Sydney Bears at the NSWRL Centre of Excellence on Saturday.

The side ran in nine tries to the Bears one to book their spot in the final six.

Evie Purukamu scored a first half double while Taylah-Jane Belcher also got her name on the scoresheet to open up a 14-0 lead at the change of ends.

Lisa Fiaola Cup: 2024 Round 9 Highlights

The side would up the ante in the second half, posting another six tries to take home the two points.

Emily McArthur posted a hat-trick in the second stanza, while Belcher claimed her second and Maronay Smuts and Ruby Wilhelmus notched four-pointers.

The strong win proved crucial after the side qualified for the finals on points differential, finishing in sixth spot after winning their last five games.
