NRLW side play out first trial against the Broncos

The nib Newcastle Knights NRLW side have played out their first trial against the Brisbane Broncos at Maitland Sportsground on Saturday ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Played over three-20 minute thirds, the Broncos scored three tries to the Knights one with the result finishing 18-4 to the away side.

Ronald Griffiths' side will take plenty of positives out of the match with Round 1 kicking off on July 22 against the Dragons. Secure your seat.

HOW IT PLAYED OUT:

With a host of players making their unofficial debut, the side were set for their first test against the three time premiers.

In windy conditions and in front of a strong crowd at Maitland, the match kicked off with the red and blue starting fast.

The Knights notched first points with debut winger Tamerah Leati posting her first try early in the game.

Brisbane wrestled back momentum as Chelsea Lenarduzzi and Romy Teitzel scored two quick tries as the away side took a 12-4 lead into the change of ends.

Nita Maynard was asking questions of the Broncos defence out of dummy half while Rima Butler provided a bunch of powerful carries putting the Knights on the front foot.

However, the Broncos would score a third try in the final third to extend their lead.

Leati was denied a second while Abigail Roache almost scored in the opposite corner with minutes remaining.

The match finished 18-4 to the way of the Broncos.
