Presser Points: AOB and Brailey react to Broncos loss

The nib Newcastle Knights were defeated by the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

After the Knights staged a comeback in the second half with two tries, they soon fell short in the second half.

With three games remaining in the regular season, the Knights will play for pride and aim to finish the season on a high.

The Head Coach Adam O'Brien and Club Captain Jayden Brailey spoke after the game on the loss, Klemmer's injury and Brailey's 100 NRL games.

ON THE LOSS

“The scoreboard towards the back end of that first half was where we lost, but I just thought we tried our backsides off, it was a young team, and we had a lot of personnel out," O'Brien said.

"We lacked a bit of patience and a little bit of polish but I can’t fault their effort; they’re trying their backsides off. It’s a pretty young team out there at the moment.

"Trying is not going to get it done, unfortunately. We need to be better.”

ON FUTURE PERFORMANCE

“We will focus on it every day. Every day we’re training and we’ll look to get better," O'Brien said.

"There’s plenty to play for, to get ready for our summer, it’s coming up, and we want to go in there with something to hang our hat on. At the moment the scoreboard might not suggest it but I reckon there’s a bit more resilience in our defensive line."

ON THE CONDITIONS OF THE FIELD

“It was very slippery out there…we probably played better to the conditions in the second half," Brailey said.

"Sure enough, we were able to get ourselves back in the game. I’m really proud of the effort of the boys to find a way to get back into the game but, we probably needed to be a bit better in the first half with the conditions."

ON BRONCOS

"They’re a dangerous footy team. They’re athletic and Reynolds does a really good job at putting them in the right positions, especially on the last plays," O'Brien said.

"I thought that was the difference between the two teams,

"He knows what his doing and then you’ve got those young blokes out there, they’ve got a lot of strike about them."

NRL Match Highlights: Broncos v Knights

ON KLEMMER'S INJURY

“He’s hurt his knee, just twisted it earlier in the week…and scans have cleared all the big stuff, there’s just some fluid in there that showed up on the scans that we were hoping would settle," O'Brien said.

"We’re trying to get it to settle down so I’m hopeful he’ll be right for this week. He’s disappointed. It’s been a bad couple of weeks for Klem. He was busting to play so I really feel for him.

ON KP UPDATE

"I don’t know where all of that [World Cup team] is at. I don’t know anything’s been confirmed in concrete, as far as I’m concerned," O'Brien said.

"We’re just listening to the experts there and taking it week by week. I can’t give you anything, I know everyone’s waiting to hear, he won’t be playing for us next week."

ON JAYDEN’S 100th GAME

“The boys had a massive dig for me…the way we were able to get ourselves back in the game. I’m really proud of the boys and really happy they dug deep for me," Brailey said.

"It’s been a rollercoaster of 100 games but I know we will turn things around as a club and a team. I’m really looking forward to the future."
