Lee scores five as Knights secure dominant home victory

The nib Newcastle Knights have defeated the Gold Coast Titans 38-12 in Round 16 at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday night.

Edrick Lee scored an incredible five tries to break a Club record for most tries in a single game.

Fellow winger, Dom Young, produced a hat-trick of tries as the two wingers shared a night to remember.

The Knights ran is eight tries to the Titans two to secure a well earned home victory.

In front of 8,578 fans for Beanies for Brain Cancer Round, the Knights were inspired and hungry from the first whistle.

Dominating possession, the red and blue enjoyed solid field position in the opening stages.

The dominance soon led to points.

An Adam Clune kick was dropped by the Titans and the towering Dom Young was on hand to score the opener on the 10th minute mark.

Soon after, Edrick Lee would have his first for the night.

A slick backline move made its way to the winger and Lee dived over acrobatically in the corner 19 minutes into the game.

Edrick would have his second only four minutes later with Clune setting up another four-pointer.

The wingers were having a field day when Young also produced a special effort to score his second 27 minutes into the contest.

A floating pass from Anthony Milford hit Young on the chest, and the Englishmen powered his way into the corner.

The Knights were unrelenting in the first period producing their best attacking half of football for the season.

To cap off a scintillating first half, Lee made it a hat-trick right on the stroke of half-time.

Clune put the ball on a dime to pick up his third try-assist with Lee catching the ball over the line.

The Knights would take a 22-0 lead into the change of ends.

Newcastle started the second half with a huge lead intact.

The Titans were fast out of the sheds scoring the opening try of the second half through AJ Brimson before Greg Marzhew had the Gold Coast to within 10 with 20 minutes to play.

However, it was the Edrick Lee show as the winger piled on the points.

The winger scored a Club-record equalling fourth try on the 64th minute mark.

Not long after, Jarrod Wallace was sent-off for a dangerous tackle on Simi Sasagi.

However, nothing could spoil the red and blue party as Lee broke the record with his fifth try of the night with seven minutes to play.

Dom Young put the icing on the cake with a brilliant hat-trick of his own picking up the ball and running 80 metres to score untouched.

The result is the Knights fifth win of the season ahead of another home clash against the South Sydney Rabbitohs next start.
