Seven NRLW players set for Origin battle

Women's State of Origin is back with the next chapter of the Queensland vs New South Wales rivalry set to be written this Friday at Canberra's GIO Stadium.

A total of seven nib Newcastle Knights NRLW players have been selected for their states ahead of the standalone match.

Newly signed recruits, Millie Boyle, Hannah Southwell and Yasmin Clydsdale will link up with current Knights players, Kirra Dibb and Caitlan Johnston for NSW.

Boyle, Southwell, Clydsdale and Dibb have 10 appearances between them at state level while local junior, Johnston, will make her debut for the Blues.

The 21-year-old has come through the Knights pathway systems and previously represented and captained the Indigenous All Stars and been part of the Jillaroos setup.

For the Maroons, marquee recruit, Tamika Upton, will line-up at fullback for Queensland while inaugural NRLW Captain, Romy Teiztel, has been named on the extended bench.

Upton scored two tries on debut back in 2020 and will play another pivotal role for the Maroons on Friday night.

The Maroons currently hold the shield after a thrilling 8-6 win over the Blues in last year's game.

The match will kick-off at 7:45pm and will be broadcasted live on Nine, Fox League and Kayo.
