Knights suffer 48-point loss to Melbourne

The nib Newcastle Knights have gone down 50-2 to the Melbourne Storm at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Storm were relentless running in nine tries to nil.

The result is the Knights sixth loss in a row.

The Knights started on the wrong foot kicking the ball out on the full from the kick-off.

Melbourne took full advantage and opened the scoring through Justin Olam on the second minute.

Xavier Coates had his first of the afternoon diving over after another backline move.

Errors were costing the Knights field possession and the Storm continued to score in the first-half.

Hughes got on the end of a kick after 27 minutes before Olam and Coates would bag doubles before the break.

Jake Clifford kicked a late penalty goal on the stroke of half-time with the side trailing 26-2 at the change of ends.

Similar to the first half, it was all one-way traffic.

The Storm totalled another four tries in the second half to hit the 50 point mark.

The result puts the Knights down to 16th on the ladder ahead of an away trip to face the North Queensland Cowboys next round.
