Knights battle hard but fall short at the final hurdle

The nib Newcastle Knights NRLW side have gone down 14-10 in a nail-biter final round game at Suncorp Stadium.

After a valiant and impressive defensive effort, the Titans scored a late try with two minutes remaining to sink Newcastle hearts.

The game finishes the 2021 rescheduled campaign for the inaugural NRLW side.

The Knights burst out of the sheds and were rewarded with a try inside four minutes.

A high kick from Autumn-Rain Stephens-Daly bounced over the Titans defender and debutant Paige Parker was on hand to score her first try in the NRLW.

After the promising start attacking wise, the Knights were resolute at the other end of the field.

The red and blue kept out waves of Titans attacks to go into the break ahead by six.

The Titans held the majority of the possession at the resumption of the second half and their pressure took its toll.

Gold Coast had their first through Jessika Elliston on the 51st minute mark before Hailee-Jay Maunsell doubled the home side's lead.

Trailing for the first time, the Knights needed a spark and power-running forward, Phoebe Desmond, almost provided the four-pointer.

Desmond broke through the line and look destined to score, but was held up millimetres from the line.

The Knights weren't to be denied with Katelyn Vaha'akolo crossing over soon after.
