Knights finals hopes ended with defeat to the Dragons

The nib Newcastle Knights NRLW side have suffered an agonising 40-4 defeat at the hands of the St George Illawarra Dragons in Round 4.

The result is fourth loss of the campaign for the red and blue and ends their finals hopes for the rescheduled 2021 season.

After the Knights opened the scoring in theĀ first curtain-raiser ahead of the men's game at McDonald Jones Stadium, the Dragons ran in 40 unanswered points to win the game.

The red and blue worked into quality field position early in the game and opened the scoring on the 6th minute mark.

Five-eight, Kirra Dibb, fired a ball out to winger, Autumn-Rain Stephens-Daly, who posted the first four-pointer of the game and her first in Knights colours.

The Dragons hit back through Page McGregor on the 13th minute mark before doubling their lead five minutes later courtesy of Teagan Berry.

The Knights lost centre, Jayme Fressard, early in the first half with a HIA.

The Red V flexed their muscles and would post another two tries before the break through Madison Bartlett.

Looking to keep their season alive, the Knights wanted to get off to a good start, however the Dragons kept firing.

The Dragons ran in five tries in the second half to secure a comprehensive win.

Tahlulah Tillett was forced off with a ankle injury inflicting more damage on the Knights.

The Dragons ran out nine tries to one victors while Newcastle will look to finish the competition with a win in the last round next weekend.
