Dibb ready to make most of Knights lifeline

Former NSW and Jillaroos playmaker Kirra Dibb plans to make the most out of a last-minute NRLW deal at the Knights after more than six months of contract uncertainty.

Dibb has joined her new Knights teammates to begin a six-week pre-season training block that will include a maiden Indigenous All Stars appearance on February 12.

After a promising 2019 season which included a maiden Test appearance and a starring performance for NSW in State of Origin, Dibb's journey has been a rollercoaster in the past two years.

The 24-year-old appeared to have missed out on securing a new NRLW contract for the postponed 2021 season after her former club the Warriors withdrew from the competition.

She has also lost her NSW jersey in recent seasons to coincide with Queensland winning back-to-back Origin titles.

"Last year was a challenge for me mentally with everything and the prolonged time for me to get a contract," Dibb said.

"It's incredibly competitive. If anything, it's almost a really cool thing to see, that it is competitive and that no one is safe, as much as it was a hard thing to face.

"It was around Christmas that things started to look more positive, that something was going to land for me.

"To an extent, it was a little bit of relief [to get a contract] but I'm very passionate about the game and I love it.

"I wasn't going to quit that easy, I'm just very grateful the Knights gave me the opportunity and I had such an incredible support network throughout the period."

Dibb arrives at the Knights with "no expectations" on what position she will play in Casey Bromilow's side with Kiwi Ferns halves Autumn-Rain Daly Stephens and Charntay Poko also in the mix.

The former Roosters playmaker could also provide utility value to the Indigenous All Stars side after being named in the 18-player squad on Tuesday.

It is the first time Dibb will represent her Indigenous heritage after she was told of her background, through her father, when she was a teenager.

"I've spent the past 4-5 years learning about it more," she said.

"My family has been learning together, specifically my dad and I have looked into it quite deeply.

"I wanted to make sure everything that I learned and knew about I was able to represent it well.

"The opportunity at the Indigenous All Stars gives me that next step to finding out more about my family history and the way I can represent my culture now."
