Get to know: Annetta-Claudia Nuuausala

Ahead of the nib Newcastle Knights introduction to the NRL Telstra Women's Premiership, we sat down with the squad members who are creating history in the red and blue.

We caught up with Kiwi Ferns representative, Annetta-Claudia Nuuausala, to get to know her a little better.

The younger sister of former Canberra Raiders and Sydney Roosters forward, Frank-Paul Nuuausala, Annetta brings power and leadership to the Knights front-row pack.

Name: Annetta-Claudia Nuuausala but I prefer, Neta.

Position/s: Prop.

Junior Club: I didn't have a junior club.

You’re journey in the game? Where have you played before?

I debuted for the Kiwi Ferns in 2016 as a second rower, got into a relationship and all of a sudden, I'm a prop. Went to the World Cup in 2017, played Test matches from 2016-2019. I was also a part of the first NRLW Warriors squad in 2018-2019 but was medically ruled out in 2020.

How excited are you to be a part of the first ever NRLW side for the Newcastle Knights?

So so excited! The Club has been so welcoming since I've arrived. I can not wait to lace up with the ladies and show everyone what we have got!

What’s your hopes and expectations for the season ahead?

To win. No pressure…

What are you most looking forward to for the season?

Building lifelong friendships.

Favourite movie?

Nacho Libre.

Best joke?

Unfortunately, I’m not as funny as Casey (Bromilow)...

Where did you grow up?

South Auckland, Otara to be exact.

Who is most important to you?

My family.

Greatest on-field moment?

Playing at home for the Warriors in 2019 in front of all my family and friends.

Any sporting heroes?

My brother – Frank. He created a pathway for us younger ones and opened our eyes up to opportunities outside of what we were used to. I’m glad I followed in his footsteps because I’ve found something that I’m passionate about. Even better, he now resides in Newcastle so I have a part of home here with me.
