Newcastle fans in for triple treat as NRLW draw announced

Footy fans in the Hunter will be treated to an absolute spectacle come February, with confirmation of the NRLW draw today.

The nib Newcastle Knights, entering the competition for the first time, will kick-off their season at McDonald Jones Stadium as the headline act of a Sunday afternoon triple-header.

Delayed from its original 2021 kick off, the NRLW will be played over five rounds, kicking off on Sunday, February 27.

The Knights Women's side will play their inaugural game against Parramatta at 3pm, with all six NRLW Clubs facing off at McDonald Jones Stadium. The first match of the day will kick off at 12pm.

The three-game extravaganza will signal the official start of the rugby league season and is a mouthwatering prospect for footy-starved fans across the region.

Round 2 will also be played as a Triple Header, with the Knights facing the Broncos at WIN Stadium in Wollongong.

The remaining games will be played as double headers in companionship with the NRL.

The Knights' season will conclude with a clash against the Gold Coast at Suncorp Stadium.

The competition will feature one week of finals for the first time, with the winners of those games playing in the Grand Final on Sunday, April 10.

The 2022 edition of the competition will be played in the usual late-season slot, with that draw still yet to be confirmed.
