Season Review: Mitchell Barnett

Dubbed The Enforcer, Mitch Barnett was once again among the nib Newcastle Knights best in 2021.

The 2017 and 2019 Danny Buderus Medal winner continues to show his worth in the red and blue's pack.

Barnett only missed the one game in the 2021 campaign in which he was rested in the final game of the season.

Barnett was back to his damaging best in the early rounds of the season in wins over the Bulldogs and Warriors.

'Barney' scored three tries in the first six rounds and also showed is versatility by taking on the goal-kicking duties.

Highly consistent, Barnett played most of his games in the second-row and played for 80 minutes on 17 occasions throughout the year.

Barnett had 44 tackle breaks in 2021 and also made 813 tackles for an efficiency of 92.9%.

The 27-year-old averaged 131 running metres per game and totalled a massive 3,144 metres at the end of the season.

Known for producing second-phase play, Barnett also made 27 offloads - his second highest total in a single season.

Signed on for another two seasons, Barnett will play another pivotal role in the Knights pack in 2022.
