Presser Points: 'We need to take some ownership'

nib Newcastle Knights Head Coach, Adam O'Brien, spoke to the media via Zoom ahead of the side's crucial fixture against the Canberra Raiders tomorrow night.

O'Brien spoke on a number of topics including the fitness of Mitchell Pearce, discussing Daniel Saifiti's comments after the Roosters game and focusing on the next big game.

Here is what the Coach had to say:

PEARCE UPDATE

"Mitchell won't get up for the game," O'Brien said.

"He went through some more training this morning off to the side of the team, but hasn't quite ticked all the boxes to make us comfortable at putting him into the game.

"Fingers crossed he will be there for the Broncos game."

D-SAF'S POST MATCH COMMENTS

"I applaud Daniel, he is a leader," O'Brien said.

"He's quite within his rights to challenge some players.

"It's ultimately what we need from our playing group is to hold each other to a higher standard and make each other accountable."

FOCUS ON THE RAIDERS

"All we've talked about is being committed to a full 80-minute performance," O'Brien said.

"We've been really patchy.

"We don't have to invent a style, we just need to play to our capabilities.

"Semi-finals will take care of itself, what we have to focus on right now is this is game and everyone is playing their part.

"We need to take some ownership of our performance."
