UPDATE: Fitzgibbon has taken the early guilty plea and accepted a $1700 fine.
EARLIER: nib Newcastle Knights second rower Lachlan Fitzgibbon has been cited by the NRL Match Review Committee (MRC).
The MRC has charged Fitzgibbon with a Grade 1 Careless High Tackle for an incident involving Kodi Nikorima in the 34th minute of the 10-6 victory, which ultimately saw Fitzgibbon sin binned.
The offence carries a base penalty of a $1500 monetary fine, however due to prior similar offence, Fitzgibbon will be forced to pay $1700 should he accept an early guilty plea.
Should Fitzgibbon opt to fight the charge and be found guilty at the panel, he will face a fine of $2250.
The 27-year-old will be available for selection in our Round 16 clash with North Queensland on Saturday week.
