NSW Cup side score win to rise into top four

The nib Newcastle Knights Knock-On-Effect NSW Cup side has achieved a triumphant 22-8 victory over Newtown in their rescheduled game played at Maitland Sports Ground on Saturday. 

The team came home with wind in their sails to score two late tries which lifts them into the top four.

The victory is their fifth of the season and their second on the bounce.

Heath Gibbs opened the scoring for Newcastle in the eighth minute before Bronson Garlick responded for the Jets in the 23rd minute.

The Knights hit the lead before the half when Chris Vea'ila crossed over in the 36th minute.

After a hard-fought second period, Newtown chalked one back with 12 minutes to play to put the score to 10-8 heading into the final minutes.

However, the Knights would finish strongly scoring two tries through Riley Jones and Cooper Jenkins to earn the two points.

Newcastle now sit in fourth from nine games.

The squad will now have a rest with the bye in the next round.
