Joey's Rd17 Tips: Away teams shine in biggest round yet

It’s another big round of NRL action this weekend and club legend Andrew ‘Joey’ Johns once again has you covered if you need help with your weekly tips.

After salvaging 5/8 last week after a dismal start, Johns is still searching for the elusive perfect round.

It won't be getting any easier for the Eighth, with this weekend one of the hardest yet for tipsters everywhere.

In this series, he will preview and review every single nib Newcastle Knights game in 2020 and will also be providing his tips for all eight games, every round.

Joey's Rd17 Preview: Bouncing back, Pearce key, tips

Broncos v Panthers

Joey's Tip: Panthers

We said this week wasn't easy, however Thursday Night's isn't the reason why.

Johns didn't even need to open his mouth, with the high-flying Panthers expected to ease past the hapless Broncos at Suncorp.

Knights v Sharks

Joey's Tip: Knights

The Great Man backed the boys to get the job done at home this weekend, as long as they're prepared to do it the hard way.

"If the Knights boys can keep the ball away from them (Cronulla) and get into an arm wrestle, they can make it a really tough game," he said.

"I think the Knights can get away with this one."

Hard Hitting Questions: BBQ or Tomato sauce?

Rabbitohs v Storm

Joey's Tip: Storm

Another blockbuster to round out Friday Night Football, with the Storm looking to solidify their place in the top two, while the Rabbitohs are in full flight after scoring 94 points in their last two games.

However, Johns believed the Storm will be too good for the Bunnies, despite having to travel to Sydney from the Sunshine Coast.

Bulldogs v Titans

Joey's Tip: Titans

Another game where the two teams can't be split, with the cellar-dwelling Bulldogs taking on the always-improving Titans.

Johns went out on a limb and again tipped the away team to get the two points.

"I'll go the Titans in a really high scoring game," The Eighth said.

"There'll be plenty of points scored."

Sea Eagles v Tigers

Joey's Tip: Sea Eagles

In another tough game to pick, the Tom Trbojevic-less Sea Eagles take on the struggling Tigers.

Johns found this one particularly tough, but couldn't go past the Sea Eagles and their home ground advantage.

"Just because it's at Lottoland, I'll go Manly."

Raiders v Roosters

Joey's Tip: Roosters

Here it is. The game of the round.

Sonny Bill Williams returns as the back-to-back premiers take on the Green Machine in what doubles as both the Grand Final re-match and a shootout for fourth spot.

As he has plenty of times this season, The Great Man has favoured the Roosters to get the chocolates away from home.

"This'll be a bash-up this one," he said.

"I'll go the Roosters...just."

Warriors v Eels

Joey's Tip: Eels

Two sides who badly need a win, albeit for very different reasons, come together for this Sunday afternoon blockbuster.

The Warriors are in a purple patch of form, and a win would take them as close as two points away from a spot in the top eight.

Meanwhile, the Eels are coming off a 38-0 thumping at the hands of Souths and are looking to get their season back on track.

"It's a danger game again (for the Eels), and the Warriors have a great record on the Central Coast," Johns said.

"They're (the Warriors) a dark horse for the top eight.

"I'll go the Eels just, but it's a big big game for Mitchell Moses."

Cowboys v Dragons

Joey's Tip: Dragons

A big game to round out a big week, with the Dragons desperately needing a win to keep their slim finals hopes alive.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys are fighting for nothing but pride with not even mathematics providing any hope of a top eight finish.

Johns elected to again back the away team in, however he admits it comes with "no confidence what-so-ever."
