Joey's Rd12 Tips: Favourites march on, massive Saturday upset

It’s another big round of NRL action this weekend and club legend Andrew ‘Joey’ Johns once again has you covered if you need help with your weekly tips.

There's no hiding from the fact that last week's loss to the Bulldogs ruined a number of perfect rounds, however not so for the Great Man.

In fact, Johns wasn't even close. His poor run of tips left him with another 5/8 last weekend.

Joey will look to amend his poor form this weekend, and has provided some fantastic insight and analysis ahead of Indigenous Round.

In his series previewing and reviewing every single nib Newcastle Knights game in 2020, the Eighth Immortal will also be providing his tips for all eight games, every round.

Joey's Rd12 Preview: Randall's return, Smith influence, tips

Dragons v Rabbitohs

Joey's Tip: Rabbitohs

Kicking off the round tonight is two teams looking to kick-start a charge to the finals, with the resurgent Dragons taking on the inconsistent Rabbitohs.

The Eighth Immortal predicted the Bunnies to get home, with a mounting Dragons injury toll proving too much for Joey to tip the upset.

"The halfback (Adam) Clune's out, also Trent Merrin," Johns said.

"So they're depth will be tested."

Tigers v Warriors

Joey's Tip: Tigers

Another two sides who have proved inconsistent this season, who are looking to keep their finals hopes alive.

The Tigers will be warm favourites going into this one, and Joey backed them to get the job done, but not by any easy means.

"I'll go the Tigers...just," he said.

"I'm tempted to tip the Warriors, they were good last week."

Broncos v Sharks

Joey's Tip: Sharks

The Great Man couldn't bring himself to back the struggling Broncos, instead predicting their woes would continue against the flamboyant Cronulla side.

"The halves are a worry for them (the Broncos).

"I thought Tom Dearden did some really good things last week, but I don't know about his five-eighth partner."

Roosters v Titans

Joey's Tip: Roosters

This one may not be as easy to pick as it seems at first glance, with the Roosters stumbling in recent weeks as their casualty ward continues to buldge.

However, Johns won't be a tipster losing much sleep over this one, predicting the back-to-back premiers to cruise home against the much-improved Titans.

Cowboys v Raiders

Joey's Tip: Raiders

An interesting match-up north of the border, with the Cowboys showing some welcomed improvement in recent weeks.

However, Johns believed the return of outgoing back-rower John Bateman and addition of Corey Harawira-Naera on the Canberra bench could see the Green Machine prove too strong.

"I know it's up there, and it's a danger game (for the Raiders).

"I think Bateman's back, and Harawira-Naera's a great pick up."

Sea Eagles v Panthers

Joey's Tip: Sea Eagles

Johns was bound to come out with at least one bold prediction, and this week that see's the Great Man predict a huge upset in the Northern Beaches this weekend.

"I'm going an upset here at Lottoland, I think Manly can knock off Penrith."

Bulldogs v Eels

Joey's Tip: Eels

With the early kick off on Sunday, this is another game that appears to be a mismatch, with both sides entrenched in opposite ends of the table.

But Johns didn't believe that will prove the difference.

"Eels...just," Johns said.

"I think this'll be a really tough game for the Eels, the Bulldogs were really gritty against the Knights.

"They're (the Bulldogs) a gritty team."

Storm v Knights

Joey's Tip: Storm

Apologies Knights fans, but Johns is backing the high-flying Storm to take the two points this weekend.

While he may be the Eighth Immortal, just remember his tips haven't always been correct this year!
