Joey's Rd11 Tips: tight results and surprising upsets

It’s another big round of NRL action this weekend and club legend Andrew ‘Joey’ Johns once again has you covered if you need help with your weekly tips.

He only managed 4/8 last week in a disappointing tipping round, but let’s if he can climb his way back.

In his new series previewing and reviewing every single nib Newcastle Knights game in 2020, the Eighth Immortal will also be providing his tips for all eight games, every round.

Joey's Rd11 Preview: Edge battle, Klem in focus, tips

Eels v Tigers

Joey’s Tip: Eels

Two Sydney rivals open up Round 11 and having recently been knocked off the top of the ladder, Joey is predicting the Eels to be fired up at home and to bounce back with a victory.

“They’re a different team at Bankwest,” he said regarding his tip for the hosts.

Cowboys v Manly

Joey’s Tip: Cowboys

While the Sea Eagles knocked off Parramatta last week in an upset, Johns has gone against them again, suggesting their mentality isn’t where it needs to be following the recent news of Tom Trbojevic.

“I’m going to go Cowboys in an upset,” he said.

“They’re saying no Turbo [Trbojevic] for the rest of the year. I think that’ll affect Manly mentally.”

Broncos v Storm

Joey’s Tip: Storm

The Great Man didn’t have much to say about this one, predicting that the visiting Storm side will win by “plenty” against the Broncos.

Warriors v Roosters

Joey’s Tip: Roosters

Johns suggested a similar result in the early Saturday afternoon match as he picked the Roosters to defeat the Warriors without too much hassle.

Sharks v Dragons

Joey’s Tip: Dragons

This one was a bit more difficult to predict and could prove to be the game of the round as the two local rivals on the verge of the top eight clash.

Joey picked the team lower on the ladder though in the Dragons and the praised the side for their recent performances.

“I think the Dragons may sneak into the eight this year if they have some luck with injuries,” he said.

“I’m going Dragons in a tight one.”

Raiders v Rabbitohs

Joey's Tip: Raiders

His nephew Jack will be making his NRL debut this weekend off the bench for the Rabbits, but that hasn’t stopped the Eighth Immortal picking the Raiders to collect victory at home.

The loss would see Raiders continue back up the table following their strong win over the Roosters last week, while Souths potentially would fall out of the eight.

Knights v Bulldogs

Joey's Tip: Knights

Having picked our opposition for the past two weeks, the Club legend has come back around, and he’s tipped us to have a “big win” when we face the Bulldogs at home on Sunday afternoon.

Titans v Panthers

Joey's Tip: Panthers

Although Penrith sit at the top of the table, and the Titans lie at almost the opposite end, Joey doesn’t necessarily think it’ll be a whitewash like some other games this weekend.

He’s picked the Panthers to win, but doesn’t think the home team will go down easily.

“I don’t think this will be all one-way sailing which everyone thinks,” he said.

“I think Penrith will win, but not by too many.”
