Mitchell Pearce voted Man of the Match from Tigers victory

Sunday afternoon saw the nib Newcastle Knights go two-from-two to start the 2020 season with a big victory over the Tigers, and you decided that Mitchell Pearce was best on ground in the red and blue.

There were players who shone all over the field as the side managed to run over for eight tries to notch up the 18-point margin away from home.

Halfback and captain Mitchell Pearce was a man on a mission as he finished with a try, two try assists, four tackle breaks and over 330 metres kicked with the boot.

The Knights’ beast in the middle, David Klemmer, also put in a big performance as he ran for over 160 metres, 47 of those being post-contact metres, as well as making 29 tackles but he wasn’t alone in his efforts up front.

Jacob Saifiti made a big contribution off the bench with 143 metres from 10 carries while utility Connor Watson proved to be the needed spark for the side running for almost 160 metres despite playing just 49 minutes.

The outside backs were instrumental in achieving the win as well. Kalyn Ponga (173m), Gehamat Shibasaki (140m) and Hymel Hunt (122m) all made plenty of metres and you can’t forget about Enari Tuala’s and Edrick Lee’s efforts in scoring tries out wide.
