For the third straight year, the nib Newcastle Knights will hold a pre-season trial match at Maitland No. 1 Sportsground, this time against St George Illawarra Dragons.
The Knights and Dragons will battle it out in front of local footy fans on Saturday 22 February thanks to a partnership between the Knights, St George Illawarra and Maitland City Council.
Knights CEO Philip Gardner said; "The people of Maitland love their rugby league.
“This will be the third year we have taken a trial match to Maitland and the supporters haven’t disappointed.

“In 2020 we have a new coach, some new players and a new direction. This trial match will be a great opportunity for our fans to get a sneak peek at the team before the season proper."
The Knights have made steady improvements in the last few years, recruiting well and building a solid platform to launch another tilt at the NRL Premiership.
With the addition of new coach Adam O’Brien, the Knights have built a squad eager to produce which makes this match at No. 1 Sportsground a must-see game.
Maitland Mayor Loretta Baker said; “We’ve had a wonderful experience with the Knights over the last couple of years and the club has always been a pleasure to deal with. I encourage everyone to get their tickets and come along for what will no doubt be another great day at the footy.”

General sale tickets for the match will go on sale at 2.00pm on Tuesday 17 December and can be purchased online at maitlandevents.com.au.
Tickets are $20 for grandstand seating, while general admission is $10 for adults and youth (13-17 years old), and $5 for children aged 4 to 12. Kids aged 3 and under are free. Children’s tickets cannot be purchased separately and will need to be bought with adult tickets.
Kick off for the main game is at 5.30pm.
