Buhrer strong for Cup as Knights down Magpies

The Canterbury Cup Newcastle Knights have beaten Wentworthville Magpies 12-6 at Bankwest Stadium on Saturday.

It took 13 minutes for the Knights to open the scoring with a Bayden Searle grubber finding Jamie Buhrer.

Searle then converted the try to put the visitors up by six.

With the Knights chipping away at the Magpies defence but unable to poke their nose through, a gift two-points to Searle was claimed.

JERSEY FLEGG KNIGHTS FALL SHORT

Up 8-0, a break in play from Tex Hoy saw the fullback zoom away to extend the lead.

Leading 12-0 at halftime, Beau Fermor limped off mid-way through the second stanza and Zac Hosking left due to a head-knock.

When Searle’s knee was attacked while getting a kick away in the 62nd minute, the Knights were marched up the field and into prime attacking territory.

Unfortunately, the Knights were unable to convert the opportunity into points.

Searle took a shot at goal but was unsuccessful.

The Knights kept the Eels out for 80 minutes however after the final siren, Tim Mannah scooped up a kick under the posts and scored. Bankwest erupted as Mannah converted his own try.
