Realistically, the world of rugby league is quite small.
Besides their team mates, most players would know one, if not a few other players, from most opposing NRL teams.
For Hymel Hunt that’s definitely the case.
He may be the new kid on the block at the Newcastle Knights but is certainly no stranger to some of his now team mates.

You see, he played with, or against a few of them as a young lad.
It was 2012 and 2013 he was selected in the Queensland U20s Origin squad.
“There were a few of us in the team,” Hunt laughed.
“Tau, Eddy lee, Kurt Mann. Klemmer was on the other side and Alex McKinnon was on the other side as well.”
In the first year, Lee was actually the centre and Hunt on the wing.
“Now we’re cracking up because he’s gone to the wing and I’ve gone to centre,” he said.
“It’s funny, we always talk about it, we always crack up about it.”

The Knights centre recalled he played some great games with his former team mates against NSW.
One game also dished up a rather funny and unforgettable memory.
It involved Alex McKinnon. He was playing in the back row at the time.
“There was a bit of a scuffle with me and Dylan Walker and then everyone came rushing in and a set after, I remember tackling big Alex McKinnon, Macca,” described Hunt.
“I still remember to this day, I didn’t like him for a while, I smacked him and put him down and he just punched me dead set right in the face.
“Right in the mouth, my mouth was p**sing out with blood.

“I remember no one even saw it, he did it sneakily and then the whole game I was trying to get Macca, but Macca was too bloody hard to tackle.”
“I was filthy.”
To this day Hunt still hasn’t mentioned it to him.
And despite working in the same office…. He hasn’t quite plucked up the courage to remind him of that game.
“One day in the corridor I might just give him a sneaky one,” joked Hunt.
