Brown: “I don’t think the Roosters need someone to retire for motivation”

The Roosters are premiership favourites. That’s according to Newcastle Knights coach Nathan Brown.

Well, together with the Melbourne Storm and South Sydney Rabbitohs.

So, Cooper Cronk retirement or not…. The Roosters are a threat.

“I don’t think the Roosters need someone to retire for motivation,” said Brown.

There’s plenty of big names for the Knights to worry about. Brown knows that.

“With Tedesco, Keary and Cronk, those types of blokes, and that left side with Boyd Cordner and Latrell (Mitchell),” said Brown.

“Whichever one of the wingers plays, they’re all very good players.

SKD: Roosters... I can't wait!

“I had a lot to do with coaching against Ryan Hall when I was in England and all the qualities he brings.

“Whether Toups (Daniel Tupou) is back or Brett Morris, they’re all outstanding players.

‘It’s not just a jersey now for me’

“They’re high quality whether they’re internationals at the top level or high-quality younger players who have been in the system for a long time.

“It’s not about taking them out of the game completely, it’s just limiting the damage they do.”

But luckily, we’ve got our own threats… enter Ponga, Pearce, Klemmer.

“We’ve got some good players who can hopefully cause some concern as well,” said Brown.

“I’m sure it’s the same with Kalyn, they’d be trying to limit him.

Brown on Origin: “The more players playing in that arena the better”

“If you put too much attention on one, it certainly can free up others, so we need contribute well.

“Our defence is going to be a challenge more than ever next week.”
