Great guy and all-round competitor.
That’s the type of player Newcastle Knights captain Mitchell Pearce is according to David Klemmer.
Last week the halfback delivered an amazing performance against the Eels
The young forward that caught Klem's eye
412 kick metres, two forced drop-outs, a try and a try assist. Pretty impressive!
The Knights captain has openly admitted his form has been lacking early this season.
But his team mates have backed him all the way.
All about Ponga, captain criticism
“He’s out there, even though we’re losing, he’s trying to compete, but things haven’t been coming off,” said Klemmer.
“We know what Pearce brings every week, we know he’s trying his guts out and he really deserved that on the weekend.
“He’s a competitive bloke and I think as a group and as a club, we know who Pearcey is.”
'The unbelievable passing game, I'll never forget'
A big fan, the Knights forward admits the team is rallying around their skipper.
“He gets down on himself, but we know what he can produce, and we’ll always be around him and supportive,” added Klemmer.
Head to head: Kiwi battle, heavy hitters
“What he did on the weekend was great.
“All that stuff turned out for him and so it should because he keeps turning up and competing and I was really happy for him.
“He’s just a great guy to be around and play with and we know what he’s about.”
