Health check! How Knights shape up for Round 1

The nib Newcastle Knights will run into their season opener against Cronulla at almost full strength.

Both Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Hymel Hunt are expected to be available for selection ahead of the first round of the 2019 season at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Kenny-Dowall missed the final trial of the pre-season after rolling his ankle at training but has been cleared of any damage and resumed full training on the weekend.

Our Captain. Our Leaders. Our Team

“I rolled my ankle at training a week ago,” Kenny-Dowall said.

“It was more precautionary, making sure I get good recovery time and then a full weeks training leading into Round 1.

“I’m feeling good. I’ve had a great couple of sessions and building well for Round 1.”

INJURY UPDATE: HALFBACK SIDELINED, BACKS CLEARED FOR RD1

Hunt is also back in regular training having been cleared from a hamstring complaint last week.

Tautau Moga is unlikely to come into contention for the Sharks clash as he progresses in his return from an ACL injury.

The health of the backline is likely to see Sione Mata’utia leave the centres.

Mata’utia spent the Club’s two trial games in the centres out of necessity despite spending the pre-season training in the backrow.

In the middle, coach Nathan Brown is spoiled for choice.

Why Ponga and Pearce can be NRL's top halves

With the exception of Jacob Saifiti, Brown should have a full complement of forwards to choose from for Round 1.

Sticking in the middle, with Slade Griffin still on the mend from an ACL injury, Danny Levi is ready to claim the No.9 jersey with Kurt Mann likely to fill the role of No.14.
