Cruel blow as SKD and Hunt ruled out of trial

Just days before their second trial hit-out at Maitland, the nib Newcastle Knights have suffered some bad news.

Injury will force a shift in the backline tomorrow with Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Hymel Hunt both relegated to the sidelines.

Kenny-Dowall is being rested following a minor mishap.

Handy utility Kurt Mann will instead take his place.

Injury Report: Update on Ross and Moga

“SKD won’t play for us, he rolled his ankle yesterday,” said head coach Nathan Brown.

“Kurt (Mann) will go there to start with and have some time out on the wing.

Brown confirmed Mann will also see a bit of the no. 9 jersey.

"I've never been so embarrassed in my life"

“That was one of the reasons we brought in Kurt with his great versatility.”

It will also give teenager Star Toa a chance to show his wares.

“Kurt will play there (wing) for a period and then Star Toa will play a period as well,” added Brown.

“Star is only 18 so he will probably play a shorter amount of time.”

Hymel Hunt will again be given the week off.

The 25-year-old was sidelined for the Dragons trial following a hamstring injury.

The centre’s injury is only minor but there’s no rush to get him back on the paddock before the season kicks off.

“Hymel hasn’t come through and is not quite ready,” explained Brown.

“In a perfect world, he’d play but we’ll see how he goes.

“I’m not saying he won’t have the potential to play in round 1.

“Both boys aren’t too major, but we’ll have a bit more of an idea next week.”
