Ponga and Lino build goal-kicking combination

Kalyn Ponga continues to make fans everywhere he goes with the playmaker now being praised by New Zealand Maori all-stars coach Stacey Jones.

The nib Newcastle Knights superstar will gear up for the Kiwis at Melbourne’s AAMI Park on Friday against the indigenous all-stars side.

He’ll play alongside the likes of Jordan Rapana, Issac Luke and James Tamou, while up against some worthy opponents including Greg Inglis and Latrell Mitchell.

All Stars opportunity for Ponga to connect to Maori roots

After his first close up look at the 20-year-old this week, Jones admitted to newsnow on Monday, Ponga was an impressive young player.

“What you see on the footy field is what he delivered in today’s training,” Jones said.

“He’s got a good voice and it’s exciting that we’re going to see him play on Friday.”

He’ll partner in the halves with Melbourne Storm’s Jahrome Hughes on Friday to come up against an experienced duo in indigenous pair Cody Walker and Tyrone Roberts.
