Newcastle Knights Jersey Flegg coach Scott Dureau is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
A former halfback, Dureau made his NRL debut for the Club in 2007 and played the bulk of his professional career in France.
He spent four years with the Catalans Dragons.
After learning of the the 32-year-old's fight, the Dragons faithful paid tribute to the champion during their game last weekend.
