Injury update: Griffin progress and Saifiti news

The nib Newcastle Knights been back training for a week following a two week break over the Christmas period.

Fortunately for the Club, every player reached their targets upon return.

And it's not just the healthy troops to hit their mark with the injured troops also progressing.

Jacob Saifiti is sidelined with syndesmosis and a fibula break but according to Head of Physical Performance, Balin Cupples, the prop is recovering well.

"Jakey went to see a specialist earlier this week," Cupples explained.

"He got really good news so he's out of the brace, building the weight bearing through his leg. Going through his strength phase and will go through the return to run protocol over the next few weeks.

"So good news for Jakey."

Slade Griffin is another on the comeback trail.

Sidelined with an ACL injury, he's out of his brace and started running.

"Another milestone for him, he's into Alter-G running," Cupples said of the No.9.

"He's also been doing some sled walking.

"Slade's moving forward and building his strength.

"We'll progress lower body work as he gets through this Alter-G phase."

Finally, talented youngster Bradman Best has joined the first-grade squad for the final block of pre-season training following the Australian Schoolboys tour in England last year.

"Bradman suffered a grade two MCL over with the Australian Schoolboys tour," he explained.

"He was in a brace over that Christmas period.

"He's started that straight line running... he'll build that and we'll progress him into change of direction as those strength numbers build."
