Saifiti sheds kilos in pursuit of starting spot

There's been no shortage of interest in our boys this week.

The nib Newcastle Knights attract plenty of media attention and we've pulled together the best of it in case you missed any of the news.

Here's what our boys got up to this week:

January 8 - D SAF SETS 2019 GOALS

Be the Player... the story so far.

Daniel Saifiti knows the importance of securing his starting spot for the nib Newcastle Knights before looking ahead to a potential State of Origin debut.

The front-rower is aware that he is going to have to work hard to earn his place in the starting side with the arrival of experienced props David Klemmer, Tim Glasby and James Gavet.

"It's up to me to knuckle down, do my job and hopefully keep that starting spot," Saifiti told the Newcastle Herald.

"That's definitely my goal.

"To make the 17 for round one is going to be hard, but I'm aiming to get that regular starting spot and play good, consistent footy.

"That's something I haven't really done yet, over a whole season."
Saifiti is hoping to start the season at his physical best, having shed 5 kilograms during the off-season.

"Two years ago, I was playing at around 126, 127kg," he said.

"I wasn't mobile enough. I was playing good footy, but I wasn't playing my best. And this year, if I just play good footy, that might not be enough. If I can get down to 118kg or 119kg, that would probably be ideal."
