Knights in the news: 'I don’t want to get too big'

There's been no shortage of interest in our boys this week.

The nib Newcastle Knights attract plenty of media attention and we've pulled together the best of it in case you missed any of the news.

Here's what our boys got up to this week:

PONGA NOT WORRIED ABOUT EXTRA DEFENCE

KP reveals his biggest challenge for 2019

With talk strongly suggesting Kalyn Ponga will make the switch to five-eighth, worrying about the extra workload in defence isn't on the 20-year-old's mind.

He played lock in his State of Origin debut and played his last game of 2018 in the halves, so playing five-eighth in 2019 is something Ponga is happy to do.

In fact, the livewire is excited about the new challenge.

"I'm not worried about the extra defence," Ponga told Fox Sports.

"I think Origin gave me a bit of confidence. Before that I probably made four tackles a year and I made 30 in that game.

"I feel like I will be tested, obviously, but I'm not going to shy away from it and I'm not afraid of it, so it doesn't worry me too much."

Tipping the scales at 92 kilos, Ponga said he isn't focusing on putting on weight to deal with the demands of defending in the front line.

"I think I have bulked up a bit naturally because I'm still growing, so I'm going to get a little bit bigger anyway," Ponga says.

"I need to work on my strength, but I don't want to get too big that I lose my speed because that is pretty important for my game."
