Having lived in Brisbane, Canberra and Cronulla, Edrick Lee was looking for a more relaxed lifestyle.
Coming off a breakout season with the Sharks, the new nib Newcastle Knights recruit was keen to get out of the city.
He saw Newcastle as a chance to really settle down.
"It's a bit more relaxing lifestyle up here," Lee said.
FIVE REASONS TO BE PUMPED FOR 2019
"I just thought Newcastle would be a perfect fit for myself, I don't really like the city.
"Newcastle is a great lifestyle away from football."
After coming off playing in the finals with the Sharks, Lee has high expectation for the Knights in 2019.
He started pre-season training with the team two days ago and said he really likes what he sees so far.
MOST VERSATILE TEAM IN THE NRL?
"Definitely the roster, it's a young, exciting roster with a few older heads," Lee added.
"That's what we're looking to do, we're looking to get back into the finals and make sure we're playing September football.
"All the hard work needs to be done now in order to achieve that."
