Meet the 2019 coaching staff

Meet the nib Newcastle Knights coaching staff.

Head coach Nathan Brown is in charge for his fourth season with the Club after re-signing earlier in the year.

His support staff includes:

James Shepherd, who joined in 2018 from Cronulla and Tonga Test coach Kristian Woolf.


Woolf has joined from Townsville where he has coached the Blackhawks for the past four seasons.

After taking charger of the ISP NSW side mid-year, Rory Kostjasyn has stayed on as coach.

He will continue to assist Brown with the NRL side while also coaching ISP NSW.

Scott Dureau takes the reigns of the 20s side.

After running the Elite Pathways program at the Knights where he coached junior teams, Dureau is now in control of the Jersey Flegg.

Balin Cupples has joined the Club as new Head of Physical Performance.

Cupples links with the Knights after four seasons with the Warriors.

Anthony Wood has joined the performance staff from North Queensland as Strength and Conditioning Coach, while Nathan Beutel is a Strength and Power coach who comes to the Club via Parramatta.

Sam Kennedy has left the Roosters to take up the position of Elite Pathways performance manager.

Matthew Toohey was responsible for the juniors but moves into the position of NRL Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach in 2019.

James McBrien is the Sports Science Analyst and joins the Knights from the Greater Western Sydney Giants.

Phil Bosson, who has been with the team for several seasons, is Head Physio and will be supported by Louisa Cutler.

She has joined the Club as the Rehab Physio after 10 seasons with the Sydney Roosters.
