Young Knights keep utility x-factor in back pocket

Todd Lowrie will unleash Tex Hoy as a super sub when the Jersey Flegg Knights face Mounties on Saturday.

Flush with talent, Lowrie is in the fortunate position of carrying Hoy on the bench this weekend with regular spine members Matt Cooper, Nash Birch, Hayden Loughrey and Tom Starling all available for the 20s this weekend.

In recent weeks the ISP NSW have leaned on the 20s for troops which also saw Hoy get a taste of the reserve grade action but this weekend, Lowrie is spoiled for choice.

"I'm not sure how we use him," Lowrie said.

"Hayden and Nash have been our regular halves for most of the year and Coops (Matt Cooper) comes back to fullback.

PONGA: 'IF I LOOKED AT HIM, I'D FEEL SICK'

"When Tex has come in, he's made the most of his opportunities but with all those guys back in the team, Tex pushes back to the bench.

"What his role looks like, I don't know yet. We'll have to wait and see. He's the kind of player that can break the game open with one touch. He also gives us cover in the outside backs and halves."

Cooper returns to the Flegg side after a handful of appearances in reserve grade.

He stepped up in the absence of Nick Meaney and returns to the 20s with plenty of valuable experience now under his belt.

"Coops has been really good for us," Lowrie said of the No.1.

"He's played most of the year with us but had a couple of games of Cup over the last few weeks.

"Coops' defensive play has been quite good. Hopefully with a few weeks up in Cup that has improved again."
