The nib Newcastle Knights will go head to head with the Sydney Roosters in Round 14 for the annual Voice for Mining Family Day at McDonald Jones Stadium on June 9.

The Knights have partnered with NSW Mining for a sixth year to celebrate and recognise the important contribution NSW miners make to the Hunter region, and players will take to the field in their special high-vis mining-themed jerseys.

Last year saw around 20,000 Members and fans pack out the home ground to celebrate the day and the Club hopes to get an even bigger crowd this time around.

Thousands of miners and their families along with thousands more that work in mining-related businesses are expected to join Knights supporters and wear bright orange to the game to support the team and the mining communities.

As a former Hunter miner, Knights winger Nathan Ross has a first-hand understanding of how important mining is to the region.

“I worked as an underground miner, so I understand that mining is the beating heart of the Hunter and really important to thousands of families across the region,” said Ross.

“This partnership with NSW Mining is not only important to the Knights but to the thousands of miners and their families across the Hunter that contribute so much to the region.”

NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee said the Voice for Mining Family Day will be a fun and positive event for the Hunter community.

“The Knights and our miners are both integral to the local community,” he added.

“It’s a great chance to show our support for our local miners, their families and local supply businesses.”

The Knights are calling on all mining families and supporters of mining to wear orange and high-vis workwear to the Round 14 game or grab a vest at the gate to show everyone just how important mining is to the region.

As part of the Voice for Mining partnership, the Knights will also wear their high-vis replica mining jersey for Round 7 on April 21 when they travel to Tamworth to play the Wests Tigers.
