There is some unfortunate news for two nib Newcastle Knights following the opening round of the new season, with Tom Hughes and Nick Meaney both set for some time on the sidelines.
Hughes picked up a Grade 2 lateral ankle sprain in the Reserve Grade match against the Blacktown Workers and is expected to miss three to four weeks.
The news is worse for Meaney, who after a strong pre-season will now have to undergo surgery next week for a Grade 3 Syndesmosis.
He is expected to miss 10 to 12 weeks of the season.
