Last time the nib Newcastle Knights defeated the Canberra Raiders, Englishman Joe Wardle got one of his four tries recorded this season and hopes to do the same Friday.

“It was nice to get over,” smiled Wardle.

“We stuck to the game plan against them last time so hopefully we can do the same this week, there’s no reason why we can’t.”

With finals footy on the line for the Raiders, the Knights utility knows they’ll come out strong, but is confident they can make it two from two.

“We have been in good form and we held our own against the Storm last week for a little while, although they just got the better of us in the second half,” he said.

“There is no reason why we can’t get another good performance in against Canberra.”

Meanwhile, the Knights have granted Wardle a release from the remainder of his contract.

Wardle cited personal reasons for his decision.

“It is unfortunate but sometimes things don’t work out,” Wardle explained.

“Family comes first and I think that’s what we’ve got to do as footy players, is to make sure everyone is happy at home.

The 25-year-old says the Club has been supportive throughout the process.

“The Club has been understanding and tried working with us so I thank them and they have done a great job for us,” Wardle stated.

“It is a shame but I’ve got two more games to focus on while I’m out here and I’ll do my best for the team and we’ll see what happens."

The Knights are preparing to take on the Raiders on Friday night at GIO Stadium, kick-off is 6pm.
