Newcastle Knights Dane Gagai and Jack Cogger have been recognised for their efforts on and off the field.

Gagai was awarded the Indigenous Leadership and Excellence Award while Cogger was a part of the NYC Academic Team of the Year.

It capped off a successful few days for Gagai, who also took home the NRL Player of the Year award from the Knights' Awards last Thursday.

The Academic Indigenous Player of the Year award marked his contribution to the local community as an outstanding role model.

Cogger meanwhile was rewarded for his academic work, making significant progress with his studies at the University of Newcastle whilst also captaining the NYC Knights and U20s NSW Origin team and making his first grade debut.

He completed his HSC in 2015, gained entry into the University of Newcastle and has completed two subjects in his Social Science Degree.

Jack was assisted in his HSC achievements with tutorial assistance provided by the NRL as a result of his selection in the Australian Schoolboys tour of Great Britain and Europe.
