Newcastle Knight Peter Mata'utia.

Newcastle Knight Peter Mata’utia says spirits are high among the players as they approach Saturday’s match against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at their home ground, Hunter Stadium.

“We haven’t played too well the last two weeks, but the team morale is pretty high still at the moment and we are looking forward to the Bulldogs this week,” Mata’utia said.

He says the team’s main objective will be containing the Bulldogs’ forward pack.

“They are a big group and can all ball play,” he said.

“They also have a great backline as well.

“One of them is my good mate Brett Morris and I can’t wait to play him."

With this Saturday’s game the first of four home games in a row, Mata’utia said the team aims to rally to make it’s supporters at Hunter Stadium proud.

“I know first hand how hard it is to play Newcastle in Newcastle,” he said.

“We want to bring back that old vibe that when you know you’re going to play Newcastle, Newcastle is going to be a tough game.

“We are looking forward to it and can’t wait to get back in front of a home crowd again.”
