With the red and blues gearing up to take on reigning premiers the North Queensland Cowboys, the team held it's Captains' Run in Townsville on Friday morning.

Conditions in Newcastle have been frigid of late, so the players were in for a surprise when they hit the North Queensland training paddock in balmy conditions.

"I've really enjoyed it, it's a nice change from the cold winter weather in Newcastle," New Zealander David Bhana said.

"It's hot and sticky, but the boys are pretty keen to work for each other," fellow Kiwi Danny Levi agreed.

"They've (the Cowboys) got a fair few Origin players in there, so we've pretty much got to look out for the whole team tomorrow."

With the Round 13 match scheduled for 5.30pm on Saturday, the temperature is still expected to be in the mid-20s at kick-off.

Preparation for the Knights will be key, and that is something that the team has been placing extra focus on recently.

"Our prep's been really good, actually," in-form forward Daniel Saifiti told Knights TV.

"We've played well the last two weeks without getting the result, but I'm pretty confident that this week we can get close."

"Confidence is high and that's what we want," Levi said.

"Everyone is pumped for tomorrow."
