The Newcastle Knights trained at Collingwood's Holden Centre on Wednesday as they prepare for Saturday's match against the Melbourne Storm.

The Knights flew direct from Auckland to Melbourne on Tuesday, and will spend the remainder of the week in camp with a 21-man squad.

"We have brought some fresh troops in and that has livened the squad up," coach Nathan Brown said on Wednesday.

"As a whole the guys are in good spirits and we expect an improved performance this weekend."

The coach named a 17-man team on Tuesday however the final line-up could alter.

"A number of players will undergo a fitness test on Friday morning and then we will have some idea of what our team will look like," Brown said.

After a disappointing result in Auckland, the Knights embrace the challenge at AMMI Park this weekend.

"Melbourne in Melbourne has been one of the toughest road trips, they are a side that don't generally give much away," Brown said.

"It is a good opportunity for us to take on one of the better teams in the competitions."
