The Newcastle Knights officially kicked off the 2016 season alongside sponsors and corporate partners on Friday afternoon in a marquee on the harbour at Honeysuckle.

"We are so fortunate to have the support from the community and that is why this afternoon is a great opportunity to say thank you," CEO Matt Gidley said.

Not only were the three captains announced as part of the formalities, the newly appointed leadership group was introduced on stage.

Tyler Randell, Robbie Rochow and Dane Gagai join Jeremy Smith, Tariq Sims and Trent Hodkinson to lead what is the youngest side in the NRL.

"It's a massive honour to be included in the leadership group," Rochow told the crowd while Sims joked the captains will have to rock, scissor, paper their duties.

The Members Season Launch was held earlier this month and with the Corporate Launch and the final training session of the pre-season held on Friday, it is with much excitement the 2016 season edges closer to kick off.

The Knights travel to the Gold Coast to take on the Titans for round one on Sunday March 6. Coach Nathan Brown suggested during the launch he will name five players to make their NRL debut for the season opener... stay tuned.
